Welcome to the web site for the original KnitList!
The Knitlist was founded by Jill McAllister at the University
of Minnesota in 1994. It was later hosted on a private server
(kniton.com) and then moved
on to its current incarnation as a Yahoo
Group.
The list was originally composed mostly of academics who had
computers with Internet access at work. As the cost of computers
became more reasonable and Internet access became available
to more and more people, the character of the list changed to
accommodate them. Now there are members from all over the world
with all levels of knitting experience, from beginners to knitwear
designers, from new knitters just starting out to those who
have knit all their lives. There are currently about 10,200
members!
